Yesterday

Oh you can't live in yesterday
It's so very sadly been and gone
Thatcher, Cameron, Johnson,Truss
All inexorably moved things on.
The gap ever widening between
That few at society's very top
And those reliant on the Food Bank
To supplement their weekly shop.

A period of selfishness,
Materialism  and greed
Blurring distinction between
Necessity and need.
The grinding weight of poverty
And unrelenting despair
Unexperienced by the few
Who just don't seem to care.

They rule and divide, no longer
Bothering to exercise any stealth
As they openly amass and acquire
Ever more of the Nation's wealth.
No use in patriotism or
Blindly waving the flag
It just doesn't compensate
For the  growth of Fiscal Drag

It now seems we are facing
An insidious class war.
Nothing has ever been given
It's always been fought for.
Day by day we are losing
More of our  hard earned rights.
No we can't go back to yesterday
Unless we're prepared to fight.
